A bike in your hand always brings excitement, especially if you get it after a lot of cajoling your parents. I got my riding license a month back, but never got a chance to take the bike out alone. This is because my parents fear I will meet with an accident resulting in some serious injuries. Even though I am quite confident about my riding, I am not about reading signals. I did bring a signal reading chart and stuck it on my ‘inspirational board’ four months back but was too lazy to learn it or read it. So even though I am a ‘rule follower’ I do sometimes break them due to my lack of knowledge.
On a bright sunny Tuesday morning (9th October 2007), after a lot of persuasion I took my machine and set of for all the work to be done for the day. The start was quite a confident one, but as the day became brighter, the tiredness set in and my concern shifted to just getting my work done. Even though I was able to complete most of my work I just needed a signature from my college office before it was time for them to shut. As I reached the crowded lanes of churchgate my confusion about the signals set in. With speeding vehicles all by my side, my brain was experiencing cognitive overload and my cognitive saturation reached a peak . My problem aggravated by the fact that I have a low threshold for daydreaming and fantasies and it starts off without an invitation.
As I was trying to reach my destination I could sense the danger sign ahead. I knew there was a signal and just wished that I could clear it as I was able to do the others. But as we say ‘the fortunate or unfortunate has to happen’ and so it did. I got dazzled by the number of signals present and did not know which one was mine, so assuming that the red was my sign I gave my speeding machine a sudden break. The next moment I saw my bike flying 20 meters and then came the bang-baaaaaaaaaag-bhup-dhupp-and the end result-a smashed undated bike. A huge crowd gathered around to see the bike and may be the rider’s condition. But to their surprise the rider was standing 20 meters away smiling in amusement. Yes, I was there and I really don’t know how.
To my surprise, the bike flew without carrying me. I realized that as I experienced a slight push, my reflexes were at work and my judo kick allowed the bike to start its flight beneath my 2 legs. So by gods grace the air is still circulating in my body, thus allowing the 'fortunate to rule:), but had I been on the bike the unfortunate would have been merrier:('.
